Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Chris Colfer comes a graphic novel in the Land of Stories series featuring Goldilocks - as you've never seen her before!

When we first meet her in The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, Goldilocks is a beautiful and tough-as-nails outlaw。 Discover her origin story and more in this brand new, lushly illustrated full-color graphic novel, as she takes you on adventures where she may or may not break a few laws along the way。

Once upon a time, the kingdoms of the fairy-tale world lived in perfect harmony under the guidance of the Happily Ever After Assembly。 But not all creatures and territories have been invited to this peaceful union。 Monsters and criminals have found refuge in the Dwarf Forests, a land without rulers or law。 When a plot by the Charming brothers is unveiled and threatens to push society's unwanted from their homes, the fairy-tale world's harmony and Goldilocks' home are put in jeopardy。。。

New and returning fans of the Land of Stories will fall in love with the adventures of Goldilocks before she met Alex and Conner Bailey。 Fans will recognize familiar characters including Porridge, Jack, and Queen Red Riding Hood; and a ragtag team of misfits is introduced, including Puss in Boots, Little Miss Muffet, Pinocchio, and more。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I have issues with this book。 The main one starting with a heroine who tells the guy who likes her that she’s damaged goods。 Seriously? How did it cross his mind to write that? Explain the situation。 Say she can’t go back with Jack, but NEVER have a heroine utter the phrase “damaged goods”。 And then there is the issue of the “strong” queens sending their husbands to their rooms like children。 And why were the Charmings evil? (Not a spoiler, that’s literally the first thing that happened。)I read I have issues with this book。 The main one starting with a heroine who tells the guy who likes her that she’s damaged goods。 Seriously? 95%I haven't read any of the novels from the "Land of Stories" universe, and I really appreciate that I didn't need to in order to understand and enjoy this。 I can see how pre-existing fans moving from novel to graphic format may not enjoy this, but I thought it was fabulous, funny, and fresh。 I've always enjoyed alternate takes on old fairytales, and this really ran with it。 Goldilocks is a badass criminal, Miss Muffet is a funky kid with weird interests, Pinocchio's nose having purpose, and so 95%I haven't read any of the novels from the "Land of Stories" universe, and I really appreciate that I didn't need to in order to understand and enjoy this。 I can see how pre-existing fans moving from novel to graphic format may not enjoy this, but I thought it was fabulous, funny, and fresh。 I've always enjoyed alternate takes on old fairytales, and this really ran with it。 Goldilocks is a badass criminal, Miss Muffet is a funky kid with weird interests, Pinocchio's nose having purpose, and so on。 And my favourite is that the queens, while wishy-washy in the beginning, were strong independent women once they realised what was going on。 It was the little things where every familiar character is different than what we're used to in surprising new ways。 This book was funny, empowering, and sweet, and I closed it with a smile。 Sure, it's not a literary masterpiece, but it sparked joy and that's what counts to me。 。。。more

A fun swashbuckling graphic novel about Goldilocks set before The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell。 Goldilocks is living in the Dwarf Forests with Hagetta and her horse Porridge when the Charming brothers conspire to invade the forest and drive everyone out。 It is not necessary to have read other books in The Land of Stories series; anyone who appreciates fractured fairy tales and graphic novels will enjoy this book。

Easy read。 Graphic novel。 Read in one sitting。 Entertaining, but not very engrossing and fairly simplistic plot。 I also don't like that Cinderella's husbands and his brothers (the other princesses' husbands) essentially are bad。 But, overall, it was a fun take on fairytales told in an engaging manner。 My 6yo now has the book and is pouring over the pictures。 My 11yo is inline next。 So, it is a book that engages its readers on many levels! It's very interesting how they go into the back story of Goldilocks and how Red and her don't like each other and why Jack doesn't really like Red that much。 I did see a typo in the dialog, but it wasn't so bad that I got mad at it and put it down。 I liked to get to see how Goldilocks got to where she was in the first Land Of Stories book。 It's very interesting how they go into the back story of Goldilocks and how Red and her don't like each other and why Jack doesn't really like Red that much。 I did see a typo in the dialog, but it wasn't so bad that I got mad at it and put it down。 I liked to get to see how Goldilocks got to where she was in the first Land Of Stories book。 。。。more

* I got this book for review from the publisher for my honest thoughts* I love this story so much。 Another story set in this world。 I also loved seeing how far these characters came from before we see them in the main series。 I really loved not only seeing the origin story of Goldilocks but also the new characters we meet。 I also really loved the art style and thought the chris added so many political undertones to the story that i LOVED。 I am super excited to read anything else set in this worl * I got this book for review from the publisher for my honest thoughts* I love this story so much。 Another story set in this world。 I also loved seeing how far these characters came from before we see them in the main series。 I really loved not only seeing the origin story of Goldilocks but also the new characters we meet。 I also really loved the art style and thought the chris added so many political undertones to the story that i LOVED。 I am super excited to read anything else set in this world。 。。。more

I hate that my first review is going to be a one-star, but I could not stop thinking about this book after I read it。 Now, I haven't read the series that this book spins off of, so I could just be missing that nostalgic, knowing of the characters and events。 My issue isn't with the writing, it was fine and the story was good。 My problem is with the art。 I hate to say it because I know how difficult art is and how subjective it is, but after looking at the reviews and seeing all these 5 star revi I hate that my first review is going to be a one-star, but I could not stop thinking about this book after I read it。 Now, I haven't read the series that this book spins off of, so I could just be missing that nostalgic, knowing of the characters and events。 My issue isn't with the writing, it was fine and the story was good。 My problem is with the art。 I hate to say it because I know how difficult art is and how subjective it is, but after looking at the reviews and seeing all these 5 star reviews with no mention of the artwork whatsoever, I am confused。 There are so many AMAZING graphic novels out that with GORGEOUS art that don't even have a fraction of the reviews and praise this book has。 I'm going to list off my issues with the art-1。 The lack of inconsistent line art。In the same panels, there is super thick and heavy outlines on characters, and then teeny tiny line art on characters who are in the same distance of the panel。 I would understand a bit more if one was closer and another far away, but they are standing right next to each other。 2。 There were so。。。 many。。。 Copy and paste, flip, shrink and zoom faces。 And they were not good。 The faces had little emotion, the eyes were all over the place, and they used the same face copy and paste over and over and over again。 I swear Puss had like 3 expressions he switched between。 It was annoying。 And half of them didn't even look good mirrored!! They would shrink the same face, not helping with the line art inconsistency, and tilt it at weird angles to make them fit with the body pose。3。 This is a drab, book。 I'm sorry but the colors are so ugly。 There are so many panels with just a gradient background, no scenery or anything, and it didn't create any sort of environment for the characters to exist in。 4。 There were so many UGLY FACES AND FACIAL EXPRESSIONS。 I know art is subjective, but when the head is lopsided and the eyes are looking two different directions, it's bad。 There were some scenes in the battle towards the end that the anatomy was just wonky as hell。 Poor Miss Muffet looked like her arms got dislocated multiple times。It's just bad, I'm sorry。 I hate to shit all over art, but I had to get this out of my system。 It feels so rushed and so sloppy。 This could have been so cool and a great addition to Chris Colfer's series, but in my own personal opinion, I would suggest picking up a different graphic novel。 。。。more

I didn't enjoy this graphic novel as much as I assumed that I would because I really love Chris' books。 The Land of Stories has easily become my favorite series over my countless rereads over the years。 And this was a highly anticipated companion to the series for me。 The illustration style just wasn't for me。 I kind of wish that Brandon Dorman, the illustrator for the original series was who did it for this version too。 Also, the Charming brothers seemed off character-wise。 I did enjoy getting I didn't enjoy this graphic novel as much as I assumed that I would because I really love Chris' books。 The Land of Stories has easily become my favorite series over my countless rereads over the years。 And this was a highly anticipated companion to the series for me。 The illustration style just wasn't for me。 I kind of wish that Brandon Dorman, the illustrator for the original series was who did it for this version too。 Also, the Charming brothers seemed off character-wise。 I did enjoy getting more of Goldilock's character in this story though。 She has always been one of my favorite characters from the series。 Also, I really enjoyed seeing Red's part in this book。 Overall, this was a pretty good graphic novel that I did like but disappointed me a little bit。 。。。more

After reading and obsessing over Chris Colfer's Land of Stories book series, this was the perfect prequel type book to share Goldilock's story。 She has always been one of my favorite characters from his books and it was so great to see her beginning life depicted in the comic style of art。 I absolutely loved this super quick read and super recommend it! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 An amazing adventure about the fearless and bold Goldilocks, her daring life story! This graphic novel was about how she fought to save the Dwarf Forests, against the nasty Charming brothers who were hungry for power! An inspiring story about empowerment and embrace of femininity, a journey with resilience and perseverance!

Thanks you to @littlebrown & @hbgcanada for my gifted copy! 。。。more

I really liked this book! Land of Stories has always been my favorite series so you can imagine how excited I was to find a graphic novel about Goldilocks。 The art was beautiful and very colorful。 I hope they decide to make more graphic novels for this series as I will definitely pick them up。

I don’t think this art style was the best for the story and I didn’t like it very much personally, but otherwise I like seeing the characters I know and love in this new form! I hope theres more graphic novels to come!
